Few components of a car or motorbike should be subject to regular safety checks more than the tyres. In matters of efficiency and safety a tyre should provide traction, load support, improved steering and effective braking. These often neglected parts can either be a great benefit or result in disaster if they are not in the desired condition or of the correct type.
Although it is widely recognised that a vehicle’s tyres need regular attention, it is not often considered that car manufacturers supply the vehicle with tyres which are fine for mild weather and standard road conditions, but which might be far from ideal for anyone who often drives in rain or on irregular roads.

Irregular tyre wear is one of the most potentially hazardous aspects of any car or motorbike. Contrary to popular belief, wear is not only the result of years of driving, but can happen rather quickly if one or more aspects of car safety are neglected.
Over inflation of the manufacturer’s prescribed pressure causes the centre of the tread to wear quickly. Under inflation might result in a sudden, total deflation which can end in rupturing, especially at higher speeds. Loads which are greater than the manufacturer’s maximum allowance greatly affect a tyre’s stability.
